Operations Manager, Hazardous Waste Services (Apply Online)

Protex Environmental is seeking a highly motivated and talented professional to join our team in the role of Operations Manager, Hazardous Waste Services, based in the Saskatoon office. This key role will manage the day-to-day operations of our Hazardous Waste Services Division. Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Manager will provide leadership and direction, as well as technical guidance and sales expertise to ensure the smooth operation of the hazardous waste services provided to our clients. The role involves directing and advising on waste handling processes, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and maintaining Protex's commitment to customer service and operational excellence through the daily mentorship of the divisional staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Management and Leadership: Recruit, train, and supervise staff, set key performance indicators, foster a positive and collaborative work environment.  Conduct performance reviews and set individual and team goals
  • Strategy and Improvement of the Division: Identify opportunities and target markets, develop sales strategies to increase market-share and revenues within the division.  Drive continuous improvement while fostering a culture focused on safety and operational excellence
  • Resource Management: Manage budgets and forecasts, propose and oversee procurement for the division and inventory management for consumable items maintaining optimal stock levels. Assign resources as required to improve efficiencies and profitability.
  • Process Optimization: Develop and maintain divisional SOP’s, SOG’s, workflows, and other process orientated documentation to identify and improve efficiencies and effectiveness within divisional operations. Oversee daily operations and manage key personnel to ensure smooth division operations.
  • Communication and Collaboration between Divisions: Provide regular operational updates to senior management and liaise with other divisional managers to achieve corporate objectives and revenue targets.  Report on operational objectives and maintain open lines of communication with all stakeholders, such as employees, customers, and suppliers.
  • Management and Handling of Hazardous Waste: Provide expert guidance on the day-to-day handling, storage, processing, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous industrial chemical wastes within all of our service divisions.
  • Client Coordination: Work closely with clients to provide excellent customer service, offering technical advice, status updates, and maintaining strong working relationships. Assist Business Development in preparing proposals, bids, and project contracts for clients, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and competitive pricing.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Oversee and enforce compliance with Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), WHMIS, and NFPA Fire Code regulations and guidelines, along with any other governing organization such as Saskatchewan Environment, ensuring both staff safety and regulatory compliance across operations.

Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Additional certifications or training in hazardous waste management, environmental law, health and safety, or industrial waste processing are desirable.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in hazardous waste management, operations management, or a similar management role within the environmental sector.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to clients, staff, and regulators.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, environmental management software, and document management systems.
  • A combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered.

Technical Advisor, Hazardous Waste Services (Apply Online)

Protex Environmental, has seen significant growth in its Hazardous Waste Services Division due to the company’s professional, consistent, and reliable services. We are currently seeking a Technical Advisor to join our team in Saskatoon. This key role will support the day-to-day operations of our Hazardous Waste Services Division. Reporting to the General Manager, the Technical Advisor will provide technical guidance, sales expertise, and administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the hazardous waste services provided to our clients. The role involves directing and advising on waste handling processes, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and maintaining Protex's commitment to customer service, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hazardous Waste Advisory: Provide expert guidance on the day-to-day handling, storage, processing, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous industrial chemical wastes within all of our service divisions.
  • Waste Processing Techniques: Advise on and ensure best practices for processing and treatment methods for a wide variety of industrial chemical waste types, maintaining Protex's standards for safety and environmental protection.
  • Document Management: Assist with preparing and reviewing documents such as waste manifests, safety data sheets (SDS), compliance reports, permit amendments or applications, Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG’s), etc.
  • Client Coordination: Work closely with clients to provide excellent customer service, offering technical advice, status updates, and maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Account Management: Manage administrative functions related to invoicing, contract management, and billing processes in collaboration with the Service Coordinator and Finance department.
  • Sales and Business Development: Assist Business Development in preparing proposals, bids, and project contracts for clients, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and competitive pricing.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Oversee and enforce compliance with Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), WHMIS, and NFPA Fire Code regulations and guidelines, along with any other governing organization such as Saskatchewan Environment, ensuring both staff safety and regulatory compliance across operations.

Education:

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of three years of experience in hazardous waste management, environmental consulting, or a similar technical role within the environmental sector.
  • Deep knowledge of hazardous waste management, including handling, processing, and disposal techniques for industrial chemical wastes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to clients, staff, and regulators.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, environmental management software, and document management systems.
